Representatives Blake Moore, Brad Sherman, Frank Lucas, Ken Calvert, and Sydney Kamlager-Dove have introduced bipartisan legislation to support the 2028 and 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. The bill proposes the minting of commemorative coins by the Treasury Department at no cost to the federal government. Proceeds from coin sales will aid in organizing the events and supporting legacy programs promoting youth sports.

Representative Moore expressed pride in representing Utah for this initiative. He highlighted the economic benefits and global exposure expected from hosting the Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Representative Sherman emphasized his excitement as an Angelino for Los Angeles hosting the Summer Games after 44 years.

The proposed coins include $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, half-dollar clad coins, and proof silver $1 coins. These would commemorate both upcoming Olympic events set for Los Angeles in 2028 and Salt Lake City in 2034.

Senators Alex Padilla, John Curtis, Adam Schiff, and Markwayne Mullin introduced companion legislation in the Senate. Senator Padilla stressed ensuring that Los Angeles has necessary resources for a world-class event.

Catherine Raney Norman from Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 praised the commemorative coin program as a way to honor athletes. The United States has hosted nine modern Olympic Games so far.
