Congressman Blake Moore, who represents Utah’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on September 10, 2025, addressing research on safety net programs and responding to a shooting incident at Utah Valley University.
In a post from September 10, Moore referenced recent findings from the Sutherland Institute: “Research from the @SutherlandInst found that 43% of statewide current and recent safety net participants had, at some point, turned down an opportunity to work or earn more because they were worried about triggering a benefit cliff. I asked about how this impacts those wanting to https://t.co/1a6sYv7Zs7”.
Later that day, Moore addressed a violent event in Utah: “My team and I are tracking the tragic shooting at Utah Valley University and seeking more information as it’s made available. We are praying for Charlie Kirk, his family, the students, and all those impacted.” In a subsequent post following up on the incident, he wrote: “Charlie’s passing is devastating. Above all, he was a father and a husband. My heart goes out to Erika, his children, and his whole family.”
Blake Moore has represented Utah’s 1st District since replacing Rob Bishop in 2021. Born in Ogden in 1980 and currently residing in Salt Lake City, Moore graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in 2005.
