Weber State University’s softball team lost 6-4 to California Baptist University on Friday in the opening game of the Blue Collar Classic held in Boise, Idaho. The Wildcats were ahead 4-2 going into the seventh inning, but Cal Baptist rallied with four runs in their final at-bat to claim the win.
Weber State took an early lead in the third inning when Jordan McMahon stole home. In the fourth, a single from Sienna Solis and an RBI single by Jordan Hart allowed pinch runner Cailin Quinney to score, extending Weber State’s advantage to 2-0.
The Wildcats added two more runs in the fifth after Emma Bingham and Taegan Smith advanced on a fielder’s choice by Apollonia Maldonado. A throwing error enabled both runners to cross home plate. Cal Baptist responded with a two-run home run by Tu, narrowing the margin to 4-2.
The game’s momentum shifted in the seventh inning when Mede hit a grand slam for Cal Baptist, driving in four runs and sealing their 6-4 victory.
Cali McCraw pitched a complete game for Weber State, lasting 6.2 innings and throwing 104 pitches. She gave up eight hits and six earned runs while striking out five batters and walking one. McCraw faced 30 batters overall, recorded nine fly outs and six ground outs, but conceded two home runs during her outing.
Weber State will continue its participation in the Blue Collar Classic with games scheduled against Cal Baptist at 10:00 a.m. and Boise State at 3:00 p.m. on March 7, followed by matchups against St. Thomas at 10:00 a.m. and Boise State at 12:30 p.m. on March 8.
