Congressman Blake Moore introduced on Apr. 9 legislation to rename the Tremonton Post Office in honor of Sergeant Lee Sorensen and Officer Eric Estrada, both of whom served their communities in Utah and lost their lives in the line of duty. The proposed bill would designate the United States Postal Service facility at 111 South Tremont Street, Tremonton, Utah as the “Sorensen-Estrada Post Office.”

The effort is co-sponsored by Representatives Burgess Owens, Mike Kennedy, and Celeste Maloy. The renaming seeks to recognize Sorensen’s and Estrada’s dedication to public safety and memorialize their contributions for future generations.

“Sergeant Sorensen and Officer Estrada faithfully served their communities for many years, and while there are no words to ease the pain of their passing, it has been incredible to see the Tremonton, Garland, and greater Utah communities rally in support and appreciation for their families and our first responders,” Congressman Moore said. “This simple yet poignant memorial will forever stand as a testament to the impact they had on their neighbors.”

Utah State Senator Scott Sandall said: “Sergeant Sorensen and Officer Estrada gave their lives for a community they love. They consistently went above and beyond in protecting those in need, while willingly putting themselves in the line of danger. A recognition of their service at this building in the center of Tremonton will be a constant reminder of a grateful town.”

Utah State Representative Thomas Peterson added: “These communities have grieved the deaths of Sergeant Sorensen and Officer Estrada over the past year, but we have not and will not forget their legacy. Naming this post office after these officers will honor their years of service and help us to never forget their sacrifice.”

Tremonton Mayor Bret Rhode commented on how local residents supported each other following these losses: “Putting the names of Sergeant Sorenson and Officer Estrada on a federal building in the heart of our city creates a permanent, dignified memorial for the ultimate sacrifice they made…”

Garland Mayor Danny Austin reflected on community unity after tragedy: “Even months later, the support has never dwindled for the families… I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that we have two guardian angels forever protecting [us],” he said.

Dustin Cordova, Chief of Police for Tremonton-Garland Police Department stated: “Officer Eric Estrada and Sergeant Lee Sorenson did not just wear a badge — they were this community… A post office bearing their names ensures that generations from now… That is how heroes live forever.” Box Elder County also expressed pride supporting this recognition.

Katie Evertsen with USPS Operations remarked: “The U.S. Postal Service is proud to honor individuals whose commitment … serves as a meaningful tribute…”
