Former Bonneville School standout Emmaline DeGroot and her Southern Virginia Knights softball team were defeated 9-5 by the Christopher Newport Captains in their NCAA Division III game on Saturday, March 14, at 4 p.m.

The teams faced off at Captains Park, marking their opening meeting of the season.

DeGroot pitched 0.2 innings, allowing four earned runs and issuing four walks.

The Knights’ next contest is set for Thursday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at Wilson Softball Field, where they will play against the Wilson Phoenix.
