The Weber State men’s track and field team competed at two events over the weekend of April 19, participating in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California and the Oregon Team Challenge in Eugene, Oregon.
Head Coach Corbin Talley said, “We had quite a few stand-up performances at the Bryan Clay meet again this year. This meet is always a great opportunity for us to put in some solid midseason marks.”
Talley also commented on the experience competing at Hayward Field: “It was also a great opportunity to compete at historic Hayward field (in Oregon) against some of the best teams in the NCAA. Just an absolutely incredible experience for our athletes.”
Freshman Jae Macias set a new school freshman record by winning first place in the 200 meter event with a time of 21.47 seconds at the Oregon Team Challenge. Other notable performances included Peter Visser finishing fifth all-time for Weber State in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 8:35.74, Joe Corbridge taking sixth all-time in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.61, TJ Warnick placing seventh all-time in the 1500 meters at 3:44.59, Ethan Ecker reaching eighth all-time in javelin with a throw of 220 feet and ten inches, Tyler Spencer ranking ninth all-time for his performance in the 10,000 meters (29:29.41), and Jacob Peterson tenth (29:30.97).
Visser’s steeplechase mark currently ranks him twenty-first nationally while Owen Rogers holds thirty-fourth nationally with his mark from Bryan Clay Invitational. Ecker’s javelin performance placed him within the top fifty nationally and earned him qualification for NCAA First Round competition.
Assistant Coach Josh Aydlette said, “Overall, I was pleased with the efforts and performances this past weekend… For the throwers to fight through some adversity on this stage and succeed in the end is such an important part of personal growth I saw this weekend.” Talley added that there were many personal records and season bests achieved during these meets.
The Wildcats are scheduled to compete next at Utah State’s Aggie Invitational on April 24-25.
