Senator Mike Lee has used his social media platform to address issues concerning children’s welfare, family policy, and online safety in a series of posts dated July 17, 2025.
In his first message, Lee emphasized the importance of stable family structures for child development. On July 17, he wrote: “Great news for Utah’s kids. Children who grow up in two-parent households enjoy better outcomes & greater opportunities, as we documented extensively during my tenure as @JECRepublicans chairman. Not a single federal policy should discourage family formation & stability.”
Lee followed this statement by directing attention to additional resources on the subject. In a post from the same day, he stated: “If you’re interested in a very deep dive on this topic, and other social factors for economic mobility and success, check out the Joint Economic Committee’s Social Capital Project: https://t.co/LKR8coJqcg”
Later that afternoon, Senator Lee turned to concerns about children’s exposure to inappropriate content online. He posted: “Big companies are profiting from exposing children to pornography. Congress should pass our SCREEN Act and implement commonsense age verification.”
Senator Mike Lee represents Utah in the U.S. Senate and has served as chairman of the Joint Economic Committee Republicans (JEC Republicans), where he worked on issues related to economic opportunity and social capital. The Social Capital Project is an initiative launched by the Joint Economic Committee aimed at researching how communities can foster conditions that enable individuals and families to thrive.
The SCREEN Act referenced by Lee is part of ongoing legislative efforts in Congress intended to increase protections for minors online through age verification requirements for access to explicit material.
