Senator Mike Lee, a Republican representing Utah, published several posts on X (formerly Twitter) in late September 2025 commenting on issues ranging from free speech controversies involving television host Jimmy Kimmel to U.S. foreign policy and the United Nations.
On September 23, 2025, Lee addressed recent discussions about Jimmy Kimmel’s show and free speech concerns. In his post, he wrote: “If Jimmy Kimmel missing a few nights because affiliate stations were appalled by his loathsome lies constitutes ‘the worst infringement on free speech’ Jake has ever seen, he needs better glasses.”
Later that same day, Lee commented on U.S. involvement with international organizations, advocating for legislative action: “We don’t need to pay the world to hate us if they’ll do it for free. Pass the DEFUND Act and get the US out of the UN.” The DEFUND Act is a legislative proposal supported by some lawmakers seeking to end or significantly reduce U.S. funding for the United Nations.
On September 24, 2025, Lee posted another brief statement in reaction to an unspecified event or report: “How am I not surprised?”
Senator Mike Lee has previously expressed skepticism about multilateral institutions such as the United Nations and often voices concerns regarding media narratives and First Amendment rights.
