The Weber State Wildcats women’s tennis team lost to the Portland State Vikings 4-3 at home on April 10 in Ogden, Utah.
The result was determined after Portland State swept all three doubles matches, giving them an early advantage. The Wildcats dropped their doubles sets with scores of 6-2, 6-4, and 6-4 across courts one through three.
Despite the setback in doubles play, Weber State responded by winning three out of six singles matches. Maggie Song secured a straight-set victory at the number three position with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Paulina Aleksandrowicz and Naomi Johnson both claimed wins after going to three sets; Aleksandrowicz prevailed 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 on court two while Johnson finished with a scoreline of 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
Other singles results included Scarlett Perkins from Portland State defeating Jessica Hill (Weber State) in straight sets and Hana Abdelhamid (Portland State) overcoming Nataly Valdivia Rojas (Weber State) in three sets. Kasumi Hirayama also contributed to Portland State’s total by beating Savannah Johnson from Weber State.
Looking ahead, Weber State will continue its homestand on Sunday morning when it hosts Eastern Washington University. The Eagles arrive with a season record of nine wins and eight losses and are even at .500 in Big Sky conference play. Prior to the start of that match at Ogden Athletic Club, senior Jessica Hill will be honored for her contributions to the Wildcat Tennis Program.
