U.S. Senator Mike Lee of Utah has introduced the SAVE America Act alongside Congressman Chip Roy of Texas. The bill expands on their earlier SAVE Act and would require Voter ID for federal elections, in addition to proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration.

“The SAVE America Act makes our original SAVE Act better. President Trump rightly believes we should include Voter ID in this bill as we make a renewed push to secure our elections and protect the rights of American voters,” said Senator Mike Lee and Congressman Chip Roy. “By requiring Voter ID and proof-of-citizenship, the SAVE America Act will ensure that our federal elections are decided by U.S. citizens—and U.S. citizens alone.”

Key provisions in the legislation include requiring individuals to present eligible photo identification before voting, mandating states to obtain proof of citizenship in person when registering voters, and directing states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.

Supporters argue these measures are necessary due to concerns about illegal aliens gaining access to driver’s licenses and other benefits in some states, which they say could provide opportunities for unlawful voter registration in federal elections. While only U.S. citizens can legally vote in federal elections, proponents claim that current federal law undermines state efforts to enforce proof-of-citizenship requirements.

Senator Lee represents Utah in the United States Senate and maintains offices throughout Utah as well as one in Washington, D.C., according to his official website. He is known for advocating limited government, fiscal responsibility, energy independence, military strength, balanced budgets, term limits, public safety initiatives, health care reform and economic policy according to his official website.
