WSU Celebrates Ceremony of Excellence Award Recipients

Weber State University issued the following announcement on May 17.

Nine graduating seniors have been named recipients of Weber State University’s annual Ceremony of Excellence Award. Each of them demonstrated excellence in a number of categories such as academics, leadership, community, teamwork, diversity, and inclusion.

The recognition of this year’s top graduating seniors occurs on the Center for Multicultural Excellence website, and includes a video tribute and bio highlighting each student’s academic accomplishments.

“Students selected as a Ceremony of Excellence Top Graduating Senior have elevated efforts toward equity, diversity, and inclusion in many aspects of their educational journey at WSU and specifically within the Center for Multicultural Excellence,” said Tashina Barber, multicultural retention counselor. 

To qualify for the award, the recipients had to graduate with a grade point average of 3.2 or better and have experience working closely with diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The Top Graduating Seniors were selected from a pool of nominations made by faculty, staff and fellow students. They include: 

Jessica Cairo, Bachelor of Science in Psychological Science with a minor in Asian studies

Joan Eliza Christensen, Bachelor of Science in Social Work with a minor in family studies and institutional honors

Catherine Sanchez-Guadarrama, Bachelor of Science in Family Studies with a minor in psychology and criminal justice and institutional honors

Andrea Jacqueline Hernandez, Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and institutional honors

Amanda Jones, Bachelor of Science in Social Work with a minor in Psychology

Lissete Landaverde, Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a minor in organizational communication 

Mark Daniel Medina, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and institutional honors 

Alejandra Millsap, Bachelor of Science in Social Work Alternative with a minor in social work and institutional honors

Kathleen Nuñez, Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minor in graphic design and institutional honors 

“The Ceremony of Excellence provides a platform for these scholars to be recognized and acknowledged for their dedication to academic excellence and to causes most important to them,” Barber said. “It could be research, building community on and off campus, student involvement and leadership, and so much more.” 

Top graduating seniors are recognized on the Center for Multicultural Excellence website with a video tribute and bio highlighting each student’s academic accomplishments.
