Alexandre Medeiros de Oliveira, an experienced veterinarian from Brazil, will graduate with a Master of Business Administration from Weber State University’s John B. Goddard School of Business and Economics this week, according to an April 22 announcement. Oliveira, who moved to Utah in 2024 after a successful career in Brazil’s dairy and agribusiness sector, said his goal was not only to refine his leadership skills but also to contribute meaningfully to the community.

“My decision to pursue an MBA here wasn’t to build a foundation, but to refine and expand what I have,” Oliveira said. “I have much to give here, and I feel Utah has much to give me too.”

Weber State University is recognized as Utah’s first comprehensive regional university according to the official website. The institution operates under authorization from Utah Code for conferring degrees according to the official website and advances community transformation through civic engagement and public service according to the official website. Its campus is located on the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains according to the official website.

Oliveira holds multiple advanced degrees in biotechnology, agribusiness management, and strategic management. He credits his introduction to Weber State back in 2004 during a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Boston when Paul Thompson, then president of Weber State University serving as mission president at that time, spoke highly about WSU’s programs.

Weber State offers educational opportunities such as teaching, research, experiential learning, and civic engagement according to the official website. Its MBA program is tailored for working professionals with classes held at WSU Davis campus or on-site at Hill Air Force Base so students can maintain employment while advancing their education.

Currently working as both veterinarian and strategic operations leader at Bayview Animal Hospital in Layton, Utah, Oliveira applies his new business knowledge directly within his field. “My passion has always been being a veterinarian,” he said. “But one of my greatest professional fulfillments has been helping people grow, developing teams, and turning organizations into success stories.”

After graduation he plans continued work with Bayview Animal Hospital while exploring potential expansion or broader services. “I came here not only to grow but to contribute—to build—and leave a meaningful legacy,” Oliveira said.
