Weber State University’s women’s basketball team lost to Idaho State 59-54 in a closely contested game at the Dee Events Center. The matchup featured four ties and two lead changes, with both teams trading baskets throughout.

Idaho State took an early lead when Kacey Spink scored on a jumper following a steal. Weber State responded as Nicole Willardson tied the score at 2-2 with a layup assisted by Antoniette Emma-Nnopu. Tasia Jordan added points for Idaho State, including assisting Maeva Gauffrenet’s three-pointer, giving the Bengals an advantage. Despite efforts from Sydney White and a three-pointer by Willardson, Idaho State led 17-12 after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Idaho State maintained its edge by outscoring Weber State 10-8. The Wildcats tried to close the gap with contributions from Fui Niumeitolu and Lanae Billy, but trailed 25-22 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Idaho State extend its lead slightly with a 19-17 advantage. Sydney White scored early for Weber State, but turnovers and fouls allowed Idaho State to stay ahead. A three-pointer from Niumeitolu tied the game briefly at 31 before Idaho State regained control with a buzzer-beater layup.

In the final quarter, Idaho State increased its lead with an early three-pointer. Willardson and Billy responded for Weber State, with Billy making consecutive threes to cut the deficit to two points late in the game. Robbins hit a three-pointer for Weber State in the final seconds, but free throws sealed Idaho State’s win.

“Weber State was led by Lanae Billy, who totaled 15 points, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Sydney White was also in double-digits with 11 points.
The Wildcats struggled at the free-throw line, converting only 6 of 14 attempts.”
