Weber State University concluded its spring football practice with the annual Spring Game on April 11, following a 45-minute lightning delay. The event marked the end of spring training under new head coach Eric Kjar and featured notable performances from both offense and defense.
The Spring Game is an important milestone for the Wildcats as it allows coaches and players to assess progress ahead of the upcoming season. It also gives fans a preview of new talent and team dynamics under fresh leadership.
During the game, senior transfer quarterback Devin Brown threw for over 160 yards, while redshirt freshman Kingston Tisdell passed for more than 130 yards and scored two touchdowns. Tisdell connected with Ammon Munyer for a 40-yard touchdown pass. Other quarterbacks who saw playing time included Cash McCollum and DJ Duran. More than ten Wildcats caught passes, with seniors Marvin Session and Devin Ford each making three receptions.
On the ground, Weber State rushed for over 140 yards, led by Seth Rigrup and Spencer Ferguson. Defensively, Tommy Romano, Jayden Mayberry, Tajon Evans, and Mason Jeppsen each recorded an interception. Josh Hardy made three sacks as part of several defensive stops throughout the game.
Head coach Eric Kjar said after the game: “We did some good things on both sides of the ball and had good energy,” adding: “I think there are glimpses of what we want and what our team can be; we have to be more consistent in our approach and assignments.” The team has added nearly fifty new players to this year’s roster.
Looking ahead, Weber State will begin its season on August 29 at Northern Colorado before traveling to Southern Utah and Colorado. The first home game is scheduled for September 19 against Northwestern State.
