The Weber State men’s golf team finished in third place at The Shark Invitational, which concluded on April 14 at Nassau Country Club in Long Island, New York. The Wildcats posted a three-round total of 855 over the two-day event.
This result is significant as it marks the team’s final tournament before the upcoming Big Sky Conference Men’s Golf Championships scheduled for April 27-29. Strong performances in this invitational may provide momentum heading into the conference championship.
Weber State recorded rounds of 291 and 278 on Monday and closed with a score of 286 on Tuesday. Ty Anderson and Markus Nanpei led the Wildcats, each finishing with a total score of 212—two-over par—to tie for eighth place individually. Anderson achieved his score through rounds of 71, 71, and 70, while Nanpei posted rounds of 73, a team-best round of 67, and then a closing round of 72. Nanpei also made twelve birdies during the tournament, including five in each of his last two rounds.
Other notable performances included Jesus Castaneda tying for twenty-sixth place with an eight-over par total after rounds of 77, 70, and 71. Bobby Kincaid finished thirty-fourth with scores totaling ten-over par (74, 70, and 76), while Matthew Wilson tied for fifty-ninth after shooting rounds of seventy-three, eighty-one, and seventy-three to finish seventeen-over par.
Bryant University and Northern Colorado both shot nine-over par totals of eight hundred forty-nine to share first place in the team competition—six strokes ahead of Weber State. Bryant’s Matthew Young was named individual medalist after finishing four-under par with a total score of two hundred six.
The Wildcats now turn their attention to preparing for the Big Sky Conference Men’s Golf Championships later this month.
