The Weber State men’s golf team finished in 10th place at the UC San Diego Invitational, following a strong final round on March 24. The Wildcats improved their standing by four spots in the 17-team field with the best team score of the day.
The team’s performance matters as it highlights their ability to rally and compete against a large field, showing improvement over the course of the tournament. Their efforts demonstrate depth and resilience among team members.
After starting with rounds of 299 and 295, Weber State recorded a combined score of 278 in the last round at Torrey Pines Golf Club – North Course. The Wildcats made a total of 23 birdies during that final stretch, bringing their overall score to an even-par total of 872 for three rounds.
Matthew Wilson led Weber State’s effort on the last day by shooting six birdies and one bogey for a five-under-par round of 67. Wilson finished tied for fifth place individually with scores of 72, 71, and his closing round for a six-under-par total. He tallied thirteen birdies across all three rounds.
Other notable performances included Ty Anderson’s twelve birdies over three rounds (72, 75, and 74), tying him for fifty-first place at five-over-par. Markus Nanpei closed with a two-under-par seventy after opening with higher scores to tie for sixty-ninth place at seven-over-par. Bobby Kincaid also tied for sixty-ninth after recovering from an opening eighty to shoot par over his next two rounds (73 and 71). Jesus Castaneda finished tied for seventy-fifth following an improved two-under-par seventy in his final round.
Loyola Marymount University won the team title by finishing eighteen under par—seven shots ahead of second-place UC Santa Barbara. Loyola Marymount was led by individual medalist Nateeshvar Anatha Ganesh who posted scores of sixty-six, sixty-five, and seventy-two to finish thirteen under par.
