Weber State softball falls to Montana in Big Sky Tournament opener

Weber State softball lost 8-3 to Montana on May 4 in the first game of the Big Sky Tournament held in Pocatello, Idaho.

The loss puts Weber State into the tournament’s elimination bracket. The Wildcats fell behind early after Montana opened scoring with a two-run home run. In the fourth inning, Sadie Kirk scored for Weber State on a sacrifice fly by Taegan Smith.

Montana widened its lead with four more home runs, bringing the score to 7-1. Kirk hit a solo home run later in the game, but Montana’s Cockhill added her third home run to set the final score at 8-3.

Weber State will next play against the loser of game four tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Home and Big Sky games are available for streaming on ESPN+. Weber State’s softball team ended its season with a loss to Northern Colorado at the Big Sky Tournament. The Wildcats started strong but could not hold off their opponents’ offense. The team’s final record stands at 14-42.
