The Weber State softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against the Northern Colorado Bears at Gloria Rodriguez Field in Greeley, Colorado, on April 24.
These losses affect Weber State’s position as they near the end of their Big Sky Conference schedule. The results highlight the challenges faced by the Wildcats as they prepare for their final regular season matchup.
In the first game, Weber State started strong with a solo home run from Abby Grundy but soon trailed after Northern Colorado responded with three runs. The Wildcats regained momentum in the fourth inning, scoring eight runs and taking a 9-3 lead thanks to contributions from Grundy, Apollonia Maldonado, Mariyah Delgado, Riley Whalen, and Emma Bingham. However, Northern Colorado answered with an eight-run bottom of the fourth inning featuring two grand slams and ultimately secured a 13-10 victory. Whalen finished the game going four-for-four at bat while Delgado added three hits and two RBIs.
The second game saw Northern Colorado take control during an explosive fourth inning where they scored eleven runs aided by three defensive errors from Weber State. Kiaira Smith provided a pinch-hit RBI single for Weber State earlier in that inning to cut into the deficit before Northern Colorado pulled away for a 13-2 win under run-rule conditions.
Weber State will conclude its Big Sky schedule against Northern Colorado on April 25. Fans can watch home and conference games on ESPN+ or follow updates through social media accounts @wsusoftball or via the official athletics mobile app.
