Weber State University’s women’s softball team is set to compete against four in-state rivals at the Beehive Classic in St. George, beginning February 26, 2026. The Wildcats will play Utah, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, and Southern Utah over a series of games running through March 1.

The Wildcats recently participated in the Lyman Classic, also held in St. George, where they posted a 1-4 record. Their sole victory was a decisive 12-4 win against CSU Bakersfield in five innings. Jordan McMahon currently leads Weber State with a .520 batting average and has recorded 26 hits this season. Apollonia Maldonado is the team leader in RBIs with 10 and doubles with three. Freshman pitcher Kendall Freidinger has started her collegiate career with a 1-2 record and an ERA of 4.25.

Weber State faces familiar competition during the Beehive Classic:

– Against Utah, the Utes hold a historical advantage of 19-6 across all matchups, but both teams are even at neutral sites (1-1). The Wildcats have won their last two meetings, including a recent shutout win (6-0) in Salt Lake City.

– Versus Utah Tech, the Trailblazers lead the series 12-8 overall and are ahead 9-6 when playing in St. George. In their latest meeting at the Lyman Classic, Utah Tech secured a 13-5 win over Weber State.

– In games against Utah Valley, Weber State leads the series narrowly at 21-19 overall and holds a stronger position on neutral ground (6-2). The Wildcats have claimed victory in their last two encounters, most recently winning 4-2 in Ogden.

– When facing Southern Utah, Weber State leads the all-time series at 22-14; however, Southern Utah is undefeated (4-0) at neutral venues. Earlier this season at the Kickoff Classic in Phoenix, SUU beat Weber State twice by identical scores of 6-3.

Last season saw significant achievements for Weber State as they captured their fifth Big Sky Championship—first since 2022—and made another NCAA Tournament appearance. During regional play in Eugene, Oregon, they achieved their second-ever NCAA Regional win by defeating Binghamton.

Key contributors from last year include Riley Whalen who led with a .356 batting average and earned All-Big Sky First Team honors after scoring 36 runs and collecting eight doubles among other statistics. Abby Grundy finished close behind with a .353 average and led both her team and conference with eighteen doubles; she also received First Team honors.

Freshman Sadie Kirk made an immediate impact last season as Co-Freshman of the Year while earning All-Big Sky First Team honors for her performance both offensively (.352 average) and defensively (.959 fielding percentage).

This year’s freshman class features pitchers Kendall Freidinger (Tucson) and Jade Curiel (Chino), first baseman McKenzie Quintero (Herriman), outfielder Attiana Thompson (Menifee), and utility player Paige Witte (Vacaville).
