Weber State University’s softball team is set to compete in the Blue Collar Classic in Boise, Idaho. The Wildcats will play five games over three days, starting March 6 against California Baptist University (CBU), followed by additional matchups with CBU, Boise State, and St. Thomas.

The Wildcats recently participated in the Beehive Classic in St. George, Utah, where they finished with a 1-5 record. Their only win came against Utah Tech with a score of 14-2 in five innings. Jordan McMahon currently leads Weber State with a .479 batting average, accumulating 34 hits and four triples so far this season. Apollonia Maldonado leads the team in runs batted in (RBI) with 19 and has recorded three doubles.

Weber State has faced Boise State 20 times previously, with the Broncos holding a 14-6 advantage overall and leading 6-3 when playing at home in Boise. Boise State enters the tournament on a four-game winning streak against Weber State and most recently defeated them 11-3. The Broncos have a season record of 9-12 after going 1-4 at their last tournament.

Against CBU, Weber State holds a favorable record of four wins to one loss. In their most recent meeting, Weber State won 2-0 while playing away at Riverside. CBU currently stands at 17-5 for the season but lost their latest game to LMU.

The upcoming game against St. Thomas marks the first time these two teams will meet. St. Thomas has started their season strong with a record of 14-6 after finishing last weekend’s Crimson Classic with three wins out of five games.

Last year, Weber State won its fifth Big Sky Championship—its first since 2022—and earned its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. During regional play in Eugene, Oregon, they secured their second-ever NCAA Regional victory by defeating Binghamton 7-4.

Riley Whalen led last year’s squad offensively with a .356 batting average and was named to the All-Big Sky First Team after collecting eight doubles, three triples, three home runs and driving in 25 runs across the season.

Abby Grundy also made significant contributions last year by posting a .353 batting average and leading both her team and conference with eighteen doubles; she too received All-Big Sky First Team honors.

Freshman Sadie Kirk had an immediate impact during her debut season for Weber State as she was named Co-Freshman of the Year along with earning All-Big Sky First Team recognition while hitting .352 at the plate and recording forty RBI.

This year’s freshman class includes pitchers Kendall Freidinger from Tucson, Arizona; Jade Curiel from Chino, California; first baseman McKenzie Quintero from Herriman, Utah; outfielder Attiana Thompson from Menifee, California; and utility player Paige Witte from Vacaville, California.
