Weber State softball earned its first Big Sky Conference win of the season on March 29, defeating Idaho State 11-8 in the series finale. The Wildcats started strong by scoring seven runs in the opening inning and maintained their lead despite a late push from Idaho State.
The result is significant for Weber State as it marks an important conference victory after a challenging start to their season. The team now holds a record of 10-27 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
In the top of the first inning, Jordan McMahon reached base and Abby Grundy moved into scoring position before a wild pitch brought home the game’s first run. Kiaira Smith followed with a two-run double, while Victoria Rey added an RBI single. McMahon later hit a three-run triple to right field, giving Weber State a commanding 7-0 lead after one inning.
Idaho State responded quickly in the second inning by hitting three home runs and scoring five runs to narrow Weber State’s lead to two. Grundy helped extend the Wildcats’ advantage with a solo home run in the fourth inning. In the sixth, Mariyah Delgado hit a two-run homer and Jordan Hart followed with another solo shot, pushing Weber State’s lead to five runs.
Idaho State managed to score twice more in their half of the sixth but could not overcome Weber State’s early offensive surge. McMahon led all hitters with three hits and three RBI, while Delgado contributed two runs scored and two RBI as part of Weber State’s total of four home runs on thirteen hits.
Looking ahead, Weber State will host Utah Valley on March 31 at 4 p.m., with home games available for streaming on ESPN+. Fans can also follow updates through social media or download the official mobile app for results and news.
