Weber State University’s softball team swept a doubleheader against the Portland State Vikings on Apr. 10 at Hillsboro Ballpark in Oregon.
The series opener saw Weber State come from behind to win the first game 3-2 in eight innings. The Wildcats trailed early after Portland State scored twice in the opening inning, but relief pitcher Kendall Freidinger stabilized the game with 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out three batters. Emma Bingham tied the contest with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Abby Grundy secured victory by hitting a solo homer to lead off the eighth.
In total, Weber State recorded seven hits during game one, with Mariyah Delgado collecting two hits and Grundy scoring twice along with her decisive home run. Bingham contributed by driving in two of Weber State’s three runs.
The second game began similarly, as Portland State took an early lead with a two-run homer. However, Wildcats pitcher Cali McCraw kept her team within reach and ultimately earned her fifth win of the season. Delgado put Weber State on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI single before a four-run rally in the fifth—sparked by Grundy’s RBI double—turned a deficit into a 5-2 lead for Weber State.
Grundy hit another solo home run in the sixth inning for additional insurance, marking her second homer of the day after delivering an extra-inning winner earlier. Despite a late push from Portland State that included a three-run homer in their half of the sixth, Weber State held on for a narrow 6-5 victory.
Delgado finished game two with two RBIs while Grundy again drove in two runs and scored twice to cap off her standout performance across both games.
The Wildcats are scheduled to conclude their series against Portland State tomorrow at 1 p.m., with coverage available via ESPN+. Fans can also follow updates through social media or download the official mobile app.
