Weber State Wildcats women’s softball team will play against the University of Utah on Mar. 24, followed by a series against Idaho State beginning Mar. 28, according to a March 23 announcement.
These games mark an important stretch for Weber State as they prepare to open Big Sky Conference play. The matchups provide an opportunity for the Wildcats to build momentum after their recent series win at home.
The Wildcats are coming off a 2-1 home opener series victory over Loyola Marymount University, with standout performances from Jordan McMahon, who leads the team with a .434 batting average and four triples, and Apollonia Maldonado, who has recorded 28 runs batted in and four home runs this season. Weber State’s record against Utah stands at six wins and twenty losses overall; in Salt Lake City specifically, the Utes have won ten out of thirteen meetings. In their last meeting at the Beehive Classic in St. George, Weber State lost to Utah by a score of 9-1.
Looking ahead to conference play, Weber State holds a historical advantage over Idaho State with thirty-one wins out of fifty-five encounters and an eleven-to-eight edge when playing in Pocatello. Their most recent matchup was during the 2025 Big Sky Tournament where Weber State secured a championship-clinching win over Idaho State.
Last season saw significant achievements for the Wildcats as they claimed their fifth Big Sky Championship—first since 2022—and made another appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Key contributors included Riley Whalen with a .356 batting average and Abby Grundy leading both her team and conference with eighteen doubles; both were named All-Big Sky First Team members. Freshman Sadie Kirk also made an immediate impact by earning Co-Freshman of the Year honors while maintaining strong statistics behind the plate.
This year’s roster features five new freshmen: pitchers Kendall Freidinger and Jade Curiel; first baseman McKenzie Quintero; outfielder Attiana Thompson; and utility player Paige Witte.
