Weber State Wildcats women’s softball team will host the University of Utah on April 7, followed by a three-game series at Portland State starting April 10. The games will be streamed on ESPN+.
The upcoming matchups are important as Weber State seeks to rebound from a recent 2-1 series loss against Sacramento State. Jordan McMahon currently leads the Wildcats with a .414 batting average, while Apollonia Maldonado has recorded a .563 slugging percentage, 32 runs batted in, and five home runs this season.
In their history against Utah, Weber State trails with six wins compared to the Utes’ twenty-one. The last meeting between the teams resulted in a 13-0 win for Utah in Salt Lake City. The Utes have an overall record of 25-13-1 this season.
Against Portland State, Weber State has won twenty-two out of fifty-two encounters. In their most recent matchup, Weber State took the series with two wins and one loss in Ogden. The Vikings are coming off their own series loss to Idaho State and hold an overall record of 11-24 this year.
Last season, Weber State secured its fifth Big Sky Championship and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, achieving its second-ever NCAA Regional win by defeating Binghamton. Key contributors last year included Riley Whalen and Abby Grundy—both named to the All-Big Sky First Team—and freshman Sadie Kirk who was honored as Co-Freshman of the Year.
This season’s roster includes five freshmen: pitchers Kendall Freidinger and Jade Curiel; first baseman McKenzie Quintero; outfielder Attiana Thompson; and utility player Paige Witte.
