Weber State Wildcats women’s softball team will host Utah State on April 14 and Montana for a doubleheader on April 17, followed by another game against Montana on April 18, according to an announcement made on April 13. All games are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
The series is important as Weber State comes off a recent series win over Portland State, winning two out of three games. The Wildcats’ performance this season has been led by Jordan McMahon with a .412 batting average and Apollonia Maldonado leading in slugging percentage at .554, along with the most runs batted in and home runs for the team.
In historical matchups, Weber State trails Utah State overall but holds a slight edge when playing at home in Ogden. Their last meeting saw Weber State win narrowly by one run. Utah State currently has a record of 16-25 overall and will face Texas Tech before traveling to Ogden.
Against Montana, Weber State holds a strong advantage both overall and at home. The Wildcats have won the last ten meetings against the Grizzlies, including their previous encounter which ended after five innings due to run rule. Montana enters these games with a record of 15-26 after losing their most recent series against Sacramento State.
Last season, Weber State captured its fifth Big Sky Championship since joining the conference and secured its second-ever NCAA Regional victory. Key contributors from that championship run included Riley Whalen, Abby Grundy—who led both the team and conference in doubles—and freshman Sadie Kirk who was named Co-Freshman of the Year while excelling both offensively and defensively.
Looking ahead, five freshmen have joined this year’s roster: pitchers Kendall Freidinger and Jade Curiel; first baseman McKenzie Quintero; outfielder Attiana Thompson; and utility player Paige Witte.
