Weber State Wildcats women’s softball team will face Brigham Young University on April 21 before traveling to Greeley for a Big Sky Conference series against Northern Colorado, according to an April 21 announcement. The games are set to be streamed on ESPN+.
The upcoming matchups come after Weber State’s recent three-game series loss against Montana in the Big Sky. Jordan McMahon leads the Wildcats with a .400 batting average, tallying 66 hits and five triples this season. Apollonia Maldonado is also contributing with a .514 slugging percentage, 33 runs batted in, and five home runs.
Weber State and BYU have played six times overall, with BYU holding a slight advantage in the series. In their last meeting in Provo, Weber State secured a 9-2 victory. This season, BYU has recorded a 16-28 record and is led by Danica Acosta with a .339 batting average and Gianna Mares leading the pitching staff.
The Wildcats will then take on Northern Colorado, who holds a narrow all-time lead over Weber State. The Bears currently sit fourth in the Big Sky standings with Amailee Morales leading their offense at a .424 batting average and Grace Algrim posting five pitching wins.
Last season saw Weber State win its fifth Big Sky Championship—its first since 2022—and earn an NCAA Tournament berth. The team achieved its second-ever NCAA Regional win by defeating Binghamton in Eugene, Oregon. Standout performances included Riley Whalen’s .356 batting average and Abby Grundy’s conference-leading doubles tally; both earned All-Big Sky First Team honors alongside freshman Sadie Kirk.
Looking ahead, five new freshmen join the Wildcats for the current season: pitchers Kendall Freidinger and Jade Curiel; first baseman McKenzie Quintero; outfielder Attiana Thompson; and utility player Paige Witte.
