Weber State softball won both games of a doubleheader against the Oregon State Beavers on March 13, with scores of 5-3 and 3-1 in eight innings.
The victories mark an important moment for the Wildcats as they look to improve their season record. The team now stands at 7-21 and will conclude the series against Oregon State with another game scheduled for tomorrow.
In the first game, Weber State took an early lead after Jordan McMahon reached base on an error and scored on a groundout by Apollonia Maldonado. Oregon State responded in the third inning to take a brief lead, but Weber State regained control in the sixth with three runs, highlighted by hits from Riley Whalen, Maldonado, Sammy Gallegos, and Emma Bingham. Pitcher Kendall Freidinger threw a complete game, allowing seven hits and three earned runs over seven innings.
The second game saw McMahon again reach base on an error before scoring on a double by Kirk. After Oregon State tied the score in the fifth inning, Weber State capitalized on two errors in extra innings to secure the win. Raina Navarro started as pitcher before RJ Parra came in for relief, delivering 3.2 scoreless innings.
Kirk contributed two hits and one run batted in during her four plate appearances in game two. Grundy also recorded two hits and an RBI while providing a sacrifice hit.
