Weber State University split a doubleheader against Sacramento State on Apr. 3, winning the first game 5-2 before falling 14-0 in the second matchup.
The results are significant as they impact Weber State’s standing in the Big Sky Conference, where every win is important for postseason positioning.
In the opening game, Weber State’s softball team started strong by batting through their lineup in the bottom of the first inning and taking an early lead. Mariyah Delgado contributed with a key single to drive in Riley Whalen during the fourth inning, and Jordan McMahon added an RBI double in the fifth. Pitcher Cali McCraw secured her fourth win of the season by pitching a complete game with five strikeouts. Abby Grundy and Jordan Hart each recorded two hits, while Delgado finished with two runs batted in.
The second game saw Sacramento State dominate from the start, scoring twelve runs in the first inning and adding more over subsequent innings for a final score of 14-0. Weber State managed only five hits throughout this contest.
The Wildcats now hold an overall record of 11-29 and are 2-3 within conference play. The series will conclude tomorrow at noon.
