Weber State University will open its home softball season against Loyola Marymount University (LMU) on March 21 and 22 at Wildcat Softball Field in Ogden, according to an announcement made on March 18. The series includes a doubleheader scheduled for March 21 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., followed by a single game on March 22 at noon, with all games broadcast on ESPN+.

The matchup marks the first time Weber State and LMU will play each other in Ogden. Historically, LMU leads the series with three wins to Weber State’s one, though the Wildcats won their last meeting in Los Angeles in 2018 by a score of 9-5. LMU enters the series with a record of 21-9 this season, coming off a recent win against Southern Utah.

Weber State is looking to rebound from a recent loss to Utah Valley Wolverines. The team is led offensively by Jordan McMahon, who holds a .442 batting average with 46 hits and four triples. Apollonia Maldonado leads the Wildcats with 27 runs batted in (RBI) and four home runs.

Last season, Weber State secured its fifth Big Sky Championship—its first since 2022—and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. During regional play in Eugene, Oregon, the Wildcats earned their second-ever NCAA Regional win by defeating Binghamton 7-4.

Key contributors from last season include Riley Whalen, who posted a .356 batting average and was named to the All-Big Sky First Team after recording eight doubles, three triples, three home runs, and driving in 25 runs. Abby Grundy also earned All-Big Sky First Team honors while leading both her team and conference with eighteen doubles. Freshman Sadie Kirk was recognized as Co-Freshman of the Year after hitting .352 with seven home runs and forty RBI.

The Wildcats have added five new players for the current season: pitchers Kendall Freidinger and Jade Curiel; first baseman McKenzie Quintero; outfielder Attiana Thompson; and utility player Paige Witte.
