Weber State Wildcats will host Utah Valley on March 31 and Sacramento State for a doubleheader on April 1, followed by another game against Sacramento State on April 2. The games are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
These matchups come as the Wildcats look to rebound from a recent series loss against Idaho State, where they dropped the first two games but secured an 11-8 win in the third. Jordan McMahon currently leads Weber State with a .422 batting average, accumulating 54 hits and five triples this season. Apollonia Maldonado is also contributing significantly, leading the team with a .557 slugging percentage, along with 30 runs batted in and four home runs.
The history between Weber State and their upcoming opponents is closely contested. The Wildcats’ series with Utah Valley stands tied at 21 wins each after 42 meetings; however, Utah Valley holds a slight edge in Ogden. In their last meeting, Utah Valley defeated Weber State by a score of 9-1 in Orem. This season, the Wolverines have posted a record of 19-14 overall and are coming off three straight losses to California Baptist University.
Against Sacramento State, Weber State has won 21 out of their previous 35 encounters and maintains a favorable record when playing at home. Their most recent matchup saw Weber State narrowly defeat Sacramento State by one run during the Big Sky Tournament. The Hornets enter this week’s games with an overall record of 22-13 after losing two out of three games to Northern Colorado.
Last season was notable for Weber State as they claimed their fifth Big Sky Championship—first since 2022—and made another appearance at the NCAA Tournament. While competing in Eugene, Oregon during regionals, they achieved their second-ever NCAA Regional win by defeating Binghamton.
Several returning players contributed strongly last year: Riley Whalen led offensively with a .356 average while Abby Grundy paced both her team and conference with eighteen doubles; both earned All-Big Sky First Team honors. Freshman Sadie Kirk also made an impact by winning Co-Freshman of the Year honors while batting .352 over her first collegiate campaign.
This season’s roster features five new freshmen: pitchers Kendall Freidinger and Jade Curiel; first baseman McKenzie Quintero; outfielder Attiana Thompson; and utility player Paige Witte.
