The Weber State Wildcats will face the Utah Valley Wolverines in Orem on March 17, with the game scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and broadcast on ESPN+.
This matchup is significant as both teams have a close history, with Weber State holding a narrow 21-20 advantage in their all-time series. However, Utah Valley leads games played in Orem by a margin of 10-8. In their most recent meeting at the Beehive Classic in St. George, Utah Valley won 6-4.
Weber State enters the contest after winning two out of three games against Oregon State over the weekend but dropping the final game 9-3. The Wildcats are led offensively by Jordan McMahon, who has a .446 batting average, along with Apollonia Maldonado, who leads the team with 27 runs batted in and four home runs.
Utah Valley currently holds a season record of 16-8 and recently defeated Sacramento State by a score of 4-1.
Last season, Weber State secured its fifth Big Sky Championship and made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. During regional play in Eugene, Oregon, they achieved their second-ever NCAA Regional win by defeating Binghamton 7-4. Key contributors last year included Riley Whalen and Abby Grundy, both named to the All-Big Sky First Team for their performances at bat and on defense. Freshman Sadie Kirk also earned Co-Freshman of the Year honors while maintaining strong statistics both offensively and defensively.
Looking ahead to this season, five freshmen have joined Weber State’s roster: pitchers Kendall Freidinger and Jade Curiel; first baseman McKenzie Quintero; outfielder Attiana Thompson; and utility player Paige Witte.
