The Weber State women’s golf team finished the first day of the Big Sky Conference Championships in sixth place after shooting a 10-over par score of 294 on Monday, April 20.
The tournament marks an important event for the Wildcats as they compete against other conference teams for top honors. The opening round sets the stage for the remaining days of play, with teams aiming to improve their standings.
Sofia Fuenmayor led Weber State with a strong performance, recording five birdies and four bogeys to finish at 1-under par (70), tying her for sixth place individually after 18 holes. Fuenmayor played particularly well over the final five holes, finishing that stretch at three under par. Adley Nelson and Cala Korman both birdied their last two holes and completed rounds at two over par (73), placing them tied for eighteenth. Korman also tallied five birdies during her round, while Nelson made three.
Braylyn Bayer ended her round at seven over par (78), tying for fortieth place and making two birdies. Emily Song posted a twelve over par (83) to sit in forty-ninth place; despite being eleven over through eleven holes, she improved by playing one over across her final seven holes and even-par on the last five.
Northern Arizona leads after day one with a team score of two under par (282), twelve shots ahead of Weber State. Northern Colorado and Montana State are tied for second at even par (284). Sacramento State is fourth at three over (287), while Idaho State holds fifth place, four strokes ahead of Weber State. Sophia Lee from Sacramento State tops the individual leaderboard following a four under par round of sixty-seven.
The second round will begin Tuesday morning at 7:30 am Mountain Daylight Time as teams look to climb up the leaderboard.
