Weber State University’s women’s basketball team secured an 86-79 overtime win against the Montana Lady Griz in Missoula on Saturday, marking the end of their regular season road games.
The game was closely contested from the start. The Wildcats took a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter after a late 6-0 run. They extended their advantage to 21-13 early in the second quarter, with Lanae Billy and Paris Lauro contributing three 3-pointers. However, Montana closed the gap before halftime, tying the score at 30-30.
In the third quarter, both teams exchanged baskets without either side gaining more than a five-point edge. Weber State hit five 3-pointers during this period and led 51-50 going into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter saw multiple ties, including one with just four seconds left after Montana converted free throws following a foul on Weber State. This sent the game into overtime tied at 69.
During overtime, Weber State went on two separate five-point runs but Montana responded with a six-point streak to tie it again at 79. In the closing minute, Paris Lauro made her fifth three-pointer of the game and Sydney White added three free throws. Fui Niumeitolu also contributed from the line to secure victory for Weber State.
Antoniette Emma-Nnopu scored a career-high 28 points for Weber State. Lanae Billy matched her season high with 23 points and made five shots from beyond the arc. Paris Lauro finished with 15 points while Sydney White added ten. The Wildcats shot nearly half their attempts successfully from the field and made almost 45 percent of their three-point tries.
Looking ahead, Weber State will play Idaho State at home on February 28 and Portland State on March 2 before competing in the Big Sky Basketball Tournament in Boise from March 7 to March 11.
