Weber State women’s basketball lost to the top-seeded Idaho Vandals, 66-52, in the second round of the Big Sky Tournament on Mar. 8.
The game was closely contested in the first quarter, with both teams exchanging baskets and tying the score twice at 7-7 and 12-12. Idaho gained a slight edge before the end of the quarter, taking a 14-12 lead after a free throw and a jumper in the final minute.
Idaho increased its advantage in the second quarter by going on an early 8-0 run to make it 22-15. The Vandals then extended their lead further with another scoring run and finished the half ahead, 33-19. During this period, Weber State shot 30.8 percent from the field and made 37.5 percent of its three-point attempts.
In the third quarter, Idaho continued to control play, outscoring Weber State 18-12 for a commanding 54-33 lead entering the fourth quarter. The Wildcats attempted a comeback early in the final frame by hitting consecutive three-pointers to cut into Idaho’s lead. Despite outscoring Idaho 19-12 in the fourth quarter, Weber State could not overcome the deficit.
