Weber State University’s women’s golf team moved into the lead after the second round of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah, on Saturday. The Wildcats recorded a 7-under par 281 for the day, matching their program record set in April 2025 during their win at the Bobcat Desert Classic.
“That was a great round by our team today to take the lead,” said head coach Rich Friend. “The players were amazing today. It was so much fun to watch them today.”
Four of Weber State’s five scoring players finished under par. Jade Gruher led with a 4-under par 68, which included three birdies and an eagle against one bogey. This performance moved her up 12 spots on the leaderboard, tying her for third place at even-par 144 after two rounds.
Sofia Fuenmayor, Emily Song, and Cala Korman each shot a 1-under par 71. Fuenmayor is tied for sixth overall at 1-over par 145. Song is tied for tenth at 3-over par 147, while Korman also climbed 12 places to tie for thirteenth at 149.
Braylon Bayer, who led after Friday’s first round with a score of two-under-par (70), shot an 83 on Saturday and dropped into a tie for twenty-first place at 153.
Weber State overtook Stetson and Wyoming with their strong performance in the second round. Stetson trails by four shots going into Sunday’s final round, while Wyoming is another stroke behind in third place.
In addition to their main lineup, Weber State has four individuals competing in the tournament. Adley Nelson leads this group and is tied for twenty-first at 153. Brynn Bischoff stands in fifty-second place at 167 through two rounds; Rachel Lillywhite is tied for fifty-sixth at 171; Erika Kobayashi holds fifty-eighth place at 172.
