The Weber State Wildcats women’s tennis team defeated Jessup University 7-0 in Roseville, California, on March 27 to start their California road trip.
This result is significant for the Wildcats as it marks a strong opening to their series of matches on the West Coast. The victory also provides momentum as they prepare to face Sacramento State next.
In doubles play, Weber State swept all matches. Jessica Hill and Aleks Bozinovska won at the number one position with a score of 6-2, while Naomi and Savannah Johnson took the second position with a decisive 6-0 win. Alicia Celorio and Paulina Aleksandrowicz secured their match by default at court three, giving Weber State an early lead heading into singles competition.
During singles play, the Wildcats continued their dominance by winning all four contested matches in straight sets. Alicia Celorio swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0; Maggie Song won her match 6-1, 6-1; Savannah Johnson finished with a score of 6-3, 6-1; and Naomi Johnson completed her match at 6-0, 6-3. Two additional singles points were awarded to Weber State by default due to lack of opponents from Jessup University.
The team will continue its road trip against Sacramento State Hornets on Saturday, March 28 at the Sacramento State Tennis Complex. The Hornets currently hold a record of twelve wins and five losses this season and have started conference play with four wins out of five matches.
Looking ahead, this shutout win could provide valuable confidence for Weber State as they aim to improve their record during upcoming matches.
