The Weber State women’s track and field team competed at three different meets during the weekend of April 19, participating in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, the La Verne Invitational in La Verne, California, and the Oregon Team Challenge in Eugene, Oregon.
The events were significant for the Wildcats as several athletes achieved top marks in school history. Multiple performances resulted in changes to the team’s record book across various disciplines.
Head Coach Lindsey Anderson said, “We had several incredible performances at all three meets this weekend.” She highlighted achievements by Alyssa Hansen (#3 Hammer Throw – 186′-4.00″), Saga Hagelin (#5 3,000m Steeplechase – 9:57.64; #8 1500m – 4:24.24), Gurleen Mander (#7 Hammer Throw – 178′-1.00″), Hannah Bailey (#7 1500m – 4:23.26; #9 800m – 2:08.65), and Bailey Tovey (#10 Shot Put – 46′-2.00″).
Anderson also commented on her team’s distance runners by saying, “The women’s distance team had incredible races down in Southern California,” adding that it was a successful meet with four new all-time marks and eighteen new personal bests.
Assistant Coach Josh Aydlette traveled with athletes to Oregon and said, “Overall, I was pleased with the efforts and performances this past weekend. We’re in the middle of our training cycles, so there’s still lots of room to grow. For the throwers to fight through some adversity on this stage and succeed in the end is such an important part of the personal growth I saw this weekend.” Anderson concluded by saying she is proud of her team’s accomplishments so far this season: “I am so proud of our team this week,” she said. “We are looking forward to what’s in store for the rest of this year.”
Looking ahead, Weber State will compete next at Utah State’s Aggie Invitational scheduled for April 24-25.
