WASHINGTON -- Congressman Blake Moore has voiced his support for the passing of H.R. 2872, a continuing resolution aimed at preventing a partial government shutdown. In a statement, Congressman Moore highlighted the reasons behind his decision.
Congressman Moore expressed his commitment to fiscal responsibility, citing his previous support for the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA), which aimed to reduce the national deficit. He stated, "I supported the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) last year because it would reduce our national deficit by $2.1 trillion over six years and included several critical conservative wins."
One of the key factors influencing Congressman Moore's vote was the negotiated $16 billion reduction in topline spending, in addition to the reductions outlined in the FRA. He emphasized the importance of allowing more time to complete the appropriations process and avoid a rushed omnibus disaster.
Highlighting the impact on his constituents, Congressman Moore mentioned the 40,000 federal workers, uniformed personnel, and military dependents in his district who rely on federal paychecks. He expressed his concern for their livelihoods, stating, "I cannot in good conscience vote to shut down the government for political purposes at the cost of their livelihoods."
Additionally, Congressman Moore emphasized the significance of Hill Air Force Base to national security. He highlighted the base's role in hosting the nation's first active-duty combat capable F-35 unit, as well as its involvement in the Sentinel program and aircraft depot maintenance center. Keeping the base open and operating, even at current levels, is crucial for protecting U.S. national security objectives and ensuring homeland safety.
Acknowledging the frustration surrounding the budgeting process, Congressman Moore expressed his commitment to improving transparency and efficiency. He has recently introduced multiple bills aimed at enhancing the federal budgeting process to prevent similar delays in the future.
In conclusion, Congressman Moore expressed his confidence that a government shutdown would only lead to a worse outcome. He compared the current situation to playing in overtime and emphasized the need to continue working, pass budget cuts, and ultimately achieve a successful resolution.
