Today, an important appointment has been made in the House Budget Committee. Congressman Blake Moore has been named Chair of the Budget Committee's Health Care Task Force by Chairman Jodey Arrington. This Task Force aims to modernize and personalize the health care system, fostering innovation and improving patient access to affordable and quality care.
The initial focus of the Task Force will be on examining the budget impact of chronic diseases and finding ways to "Make America Healthy Again." Congressman Blake Moore emphasized the importance of addressing healthcare spending, which represents nearly 30% of the federal budget. "If we are to get our fiscal house in order, we have to tackle health care spending, which has ballooned to nearly 30% of our over $6 trillion budget," he stated.
Chairman Arrington highlighted the significant share of federal spending that healthcare occupies, noting its growth prospect. "Physical health is fiscal health. Health care makes up over 30 percent of our federal spending and is projected to account for more than 40 percent of new spending over the next decade. Meanwhile, America’s fiscal health is rapidly deteriorating as the national debt climbs past $36 trillion," Arrington pointed out.
The Task Force will hold discussions with stakeholders and the Congressional Budget Office to explore new strategies for improving health outcomes and spending efficiency. It aims to develop legislation that maximizes the return on federal investments and creates a more cost-effective healthcare system. "The task force will serve as a forum for developing and modeling legislation to improve spending efficiency, maximize the return on federal investments, and create a more cost-effective health care system," Arrington elaborated.
The initiative is seen as a crucial step in controlling federal health spending and improving national health outcomes.
