The House Natural Resources Committee has unanimously passed the Modernizing Access to Our Public Waters (MAPWaters) Act, a bipartisan bill introduced by Congressman Blake Moore. The legislation aims to improve access to outdoor recreational activities by digitizing and standardizing mapping information for federal waterways. Representatives Jimmy Panetta, Russ Fulcher, and Debbie Dingell co-sponsored the bill, while Senators Barrasso and King have introduced similar legislation in the Senate.
Congressman Moore expressed his satisfaction with the committee's decision, stating, "The House Natural Resources Committee’s passage of my MAPWaters Act is a step in the right direction toward enhancing access to our beautiful waterways for visitors to enjoy for years to come." He emphasized that the bill would modernize water access data and foster collaboration between public and private sectors.
Chairman Bruce Westerman praised the initiative, noting, "The House Committee on Natural Resources has always championed legislation that helps improve opportunities for outdoor recreation." He acknowledged Congressman Moore's efforts in promoting outdoor recreation through standardized mapping information.
The MAPWaters Act includes provisions aimed at enhancing public enjoyment of federal waters by providing accurate mapping details such as access points and permissible uses.
